“Our goal was to further simplify setup and live production tasks so that users can produce even more visually engaging content instinctively, giving them more time to concentrate on guests and their audience.”

“This latest release of Wirecast raises the bar once again on production workflow for live streaming,” says Lynn Elliott, Senior Product Manager for Wirecast. For example, an operator could assign a guest to a placeholder and once that guest arrives, they are automatically placed in all shots designated for them. Cameras and sources can now be assigned to Placeholders to add a source to any number of shots. Shot Templates allow users to add a pre-configured shot layout to a document. When paired with a UVC HDMI capture device, users can capture live output for use in other applications like Zoom or Teams as an alternative to using a virtual camera/mic. Some users are surprised to see that any text or titles they've added in Ecamm Live look mirrored when viewed in other apps. The live program feed can be sent to a big screen or to an independent capture device without the need for specific hardware. The Ecamm Live Virtual Camera feature allows you to take the output of Ecamm Live and make it show up as a camera to other apps such as Zoom and Google Hangouts. In Wirecast Pro, users can now send their live outputs to a secondary display. The new version adds native support for Apple Silicon (M1) hardware and adds new features for enhanced flexibility and further streamline production workflows.

Please feel free to contact if you’d like more information or to try this out at our new studio “StudioONE” located in the Telcom Building.Telestream, a leader in file-based media workflow orchestration, media streaming and delivery technologies, announces a latest version of Wirecast, its award-winning live production and streaming platform for Mac and Windows. Wirecast will also record and stream simultaneously but it’s not a great tool for recording both sides of a Skype interview (although you can bring Skype into Wirecast as well).

This is huge! We’ve used programs such as Camtwist in the past to do this (free but yucky) so having a professional app like Wirecast support this opens a lot of possibilities for distance learning. Sure enough, if you start the virtual camera output, then applications such as Skype, Google Hangouts and even WebEx recognize the output of Wirecast (composited or whatever) as a camera. After a ton of googling and working with Jack D’Ardenne, we realized that Wirecast has a virtual camera output. This did not work well because of the 20-30 second delay for YouTube streaming. Our original test was streaming to YouTube and then speaking to the class via Skype.

If you are not familiar with it, it is like a software video switcher that allows you to build shots using green screen, picture in picture, put in graphics such as lower thirds and do wipes and dissolves between real cameras or even IP cameras. Your studio has been waiting for Wirecast.

Designed with the most dedicated streamers in mind, Pro has all the features of Studio plus expanded inputs and audio capabilities, 7 simultaneous Wirecast Rendezvous guests, 3D virtual sets, PTZ camera control and much more. Wirecast is generally used to stream content to YouTube or our own DukeStream Wowza server or many other web broadcasting services. Wirecast Pro is the top of the line Wirecast offering. We tried it again with our improved lighting in the MPS Studio and it worked well enough, but we were streaming Wirecast to YouTube. We suspected it was due to the camera and lighting in that room not being optimized for green screen. We had used Wirecast to try this in the past in the MPS Video Recording Room but it had never worked that well. Stephen Craig, Chair of Duke’s Chemistry department wanted to use live green screen for a presentation to some undergraduates at Florida Gulf Coast University.
